Outdoor Summer Adventures in Wyoming

In Wyoming,

many summer trips center on time outside, from multi-day hikes to river days and small-town stops along the way.

In the Wind River Range, hikers access glacier-carved terrain, high-elevation lakes and extended backcountry routes. The region also supports alpine fishing in remote waters reached only by trail or horseback.

Farther south, the Killpecker Dune Field in the Red Desert offers one of the largest active dune systems in North America, where visitors hike, sandboard and explore open high-desert terrain.

Fishing remains a central part of the season, with anglers heading to rivers such as the North Platte, Green and Bighorn for both guided and self-directed trips. In Riverton, HoneyFly is expected to open in summer 2026 as a new fly-fishing hub combining guide services, a small-batch meadery and retail space.

Hot springs are part of the experience as well. Thermopolis maintains a free public bathhouse at Hot Springs State Park, and Saratoga’s Hobo Pool is open year-round.
