Small in size, big in personality, visit the city-state of Singapore

The city-state of Singapore has a total land area of 287.4 square miles.

Broken down it is 31 miles from east to west, 17 miles from north to south and there are 120 miles of coastline to explore. While it is a small-sized destination, when visiting you will see there is much compacted into the heavily urbanized area offering a big personality.

Singapore is located at the end of the Malayan Peninsula between Malaysia (separated by the Straits of Johor), Indonesia (separated by the Singapore Strait), the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea. It is one-and-a-half degrees north of the equator, and the climate is tropical rainforest with no distinct seasons. There is usually more rainfall on the western side of the island and the eastern side is not only dryer, but warmer overall. In fact, you can count on Singapore typically being mostly warm and wet with a temperature that stays around 77 °F with a maximum high of 91.4°F. There are two monsoon seasons: the Northeast Monsoon from mid-November to early March and the Southwest Monsoon from June to September.

Central Singapore’s Neighborhoods
While staying in Central Singapore you can visit Tiong Bahru — one of Singapore’s oldest and quirkiest neighborhoods. Here you will uncover charming Art Deco buildings, trendy cafés, indie boutiques, and a bustling market home to Michelin-rated local eats.

At the heart of Singapore, Orchard is a world-renowned shopping district filled with luxury malls, global brands, and an incredible range of dining options — from upscale restaurants to global cuisines that cater to every palate.

Finally, do not miss Chinatown. This is where heritage meets vibrancy — a lively district of centuries-old temples, traditional shophouses, and bustling markets. You can walk the narrow lanes lined with shops selling textiles, spices, and souvenirs, while stopping for traditional snacks, desserts, and Michelin-rated hawker fare.

The Warehouse Hotel is in Central Singapore
The Warehouse Hotel is part of the Design Hotels™ portfolio with 37-rooms honoring the heritage and local culture in the area where it is located. It opened in 2017 with not only historically detailed rooms, but classic local dishes and craft cocktails. It is located in Central Singapore, in a neighborhood with rich and notorious past — steps from some of the most amazing local markets, museums, shops, restaurants, theatres, and attractions.

The property has a curated partnership within the vibrant Robertson Quay neighborhood where you will find a vibrant blend of residential and commercial offerings. It is within walking distance to Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, and equidistant from the Central Business District and the Orchard Road shopping district. Its bustling riverside location makes it a natural food and beverage hub.

Visiting the Islands
While visiting Singapore, a strong recommendation is getting outside of the hustle and bustle and discovering one of the private islands.

A short trip from Singapore, Cempedak is a private island where the vibe could not be more different. Here you will find bamboo villas, sweeping ocean views and no shoes in sight. It is accessible by a one-hour ferry to Bintan Island, followed by a car transport and a short boat ride.

You will find relaxation here as your top priority with sea swims, fresh local dishes, open-air massages, and sunset cocktails at the Dodo Bar. The service is “intuitive,” and as the property touts “It’s the kind of place where curiosity is sparked quietly and nature does most of the talking.”

Cempedak’s villas and shared spaces are designed to keep the sea and jungle close following the contours of the island, allowing air, light, and views to move freely through. Menus are set daily, seafood comes in with local fishermen, vegetables and spices from the markets, eggs, and poultry from the permaculture farm.

Activities on the island include archery, cultural trips exploring religious heritage and culture, nature walks, tennis, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, stand-up paddling, diving, yoga, cooking classes, and moon gazing with the island’s Celestron 8SE telescope for an epic picture of the moon on clear nights.

For such a small destination, it is big on adventure and relaxation and in Singapore you have it all at your fingertips. For more info visit: www.visitsingapore.com
