artist Jason deCaires Taylor has proven to be one of that island’s biggest tourist attractions, and now St. Lucia is building something similar — and more — at a new dive park at Anse La Verdue on the island’s west coast.

The “Below St. Lucia” attraction, which began bubbling up between Castries and Soufriere in late August with an on-land preview of the statuary, includes a trio of underwater sculpture gardens with works by St. Lucian artists. The first to open will be billed as a Dive Park, while the subsequent installations will be called the Snorkel Park and Conservation Park, respectively.

The parks will have a “common focus on Saint Lucia’s history, culture, and heritage,” according to tourism officials. Their location near Canaries reflects that town’s reputation as a center for St. Lucian art and culture. Tourism Minister Ernest Hilaire said the park is intended to allow island residents to tell their own story. “Most importantly, this is a project about ownership,” he said.

Work Underway at New Anse Ferre Lookout
Anse Ferre Lookout in the coastal fishing village of Ciceron will be an eco-friendly attraction with a visitor center, marine conservation park, and restaurant that will support sustainable community tourism, St. Lucian government officials say. Known for its pristine beach and spectacular views, Anse Ferre is intended to introduce a new area of St. Lucia to visitors and help decentralize tourism from the heavily visited north end of the island. Work is expected to be completed on the Anse Ferre Lookout project by the end of 2026.

Despite U.S. Travel Warning, St. Lucia Police Say Crime Has Declined
The U.S. State Department turned some heads in July when it issued a travel advisory warning about crime in St. Lucia — a destination not generally viewed as high risk by travelers. But while guests at one of the island’s most exclusive resorts were targeted by thieves last year, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) said crime rates had declined significantly in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

Uber Arrives in St. Lucia
The U.S. based ridesharing company Uber launched operations in St. Lucia in January, but the move has been met with pushback by local taxi drivers and some government officials. Critics contend that Uber fares are comparable to cab fares, but with revenues going primarily to a corporation rather than St. Lucian drivers. The St. Lucian government said in February that Uber launched on the island without permission, but users reportedly have still been able to book rides on the app.

Locally owned hotel chain Bay Garden Resorts has opened the 27-room Sapphires Sands Villas on the west coast’s Reduit Beach, a new luxury resort set on one of St. Lucia’s most beautiful beaches.

November is the expected opening date for the 178-room HQ Cas en Bas Resort and Residences by sbe, in Cap Estate, a growing luxury resort region that currently includes Cap Maison and the Sandals Grande St. Lucian.

The Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa is undergoing the most extensive renovations in the property’s history, pouring more than $16 million in upgrades to its 125 adults-only Harmony accommodations, with similar enhancements to its 125 family-focused Splash accommodations expected to be completed this fall. Renovations also touch many of the resort’s guest amenities, including pools and restaurants.

A $40-million makeover of the Windjammer Landing resort includes the addition of the La Belle Hélène, a 10-bedroom private estate plus upgrades to the lobby, guest amenities, restaurants. Two new dining options — The Perch, a rooftop lounge, and Masala, a fine-dining Indian restaurant — also have been added.
