Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Update: New Resorts, Exciting Events and Opportunities for Travel Advisors
With luxury resort developments,
an expanded calendar of cultural events, improved visitor infrastructure and programs designed to support travel advisors, Antigua and Barbuda is positioning itself for continued tourism growth in 2027.
A Destination on the Rise
Antigua and Barbuda continues to strengthen its position as one of the Caribbean’s most appealing vacation destinations. Famous for its 365 beaches, luxury resorts, outstanding sailing conditions and welcoming atmosphere, the twin-island nation is attracting travelers seeking everything from romantic escapes and family vacations to authentic cultural experiences.
Tourism officials reported a 7% increase in stayover arrivals during the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. Cruise tourism is also expanding, supported by infrastructure improvements and increased homeporting opportunities. For travel advisors, these developments provide additional reasons to recommend the destination to clients looking for an upscale Caribbean vacation with plenty of activities beyond the beach.
New Resort Openings and Major Renovations
One of the most anticipated hotel developments is Moon Gate Hotel & Spa, a contemporary boutique luxury resort at Half Moon Bay. Scheduled for a late 2026 opening, the development is planned to include 71 suites and seven two-bedroom villas, along with restaurants, pools and wellness facilities. Advisors should confirm its opening and booking status before recommending specific dates.
On Barbuda, Nobu Beach Inn has been under development, with completion also targeted for late 2026. Looking further ahead, Rosewood Hotel Barbuda is planned for 2028, while Nikki Beach Resort & Spa is targeting 2029. These investments underscore Barbuda’s growing appeal among high-end travelers seeking privacy and exclusivity.
Established Antigua resorts are also investing heavily in their properties. Hermitage Bay has completed an extensive refurbishment of 30 villa suites, adding private pools to its Garden Pool Villa Suites and enhancing its beachfront spa.
Curtain Bluff has remodeled 42 junior suites, added new Signature Pool Suites and upgraded its Seagrape Beach Restaurant with expanded seating, improved facilities and a new sunken bar.
Meanwhile, Carlisle Bay has continued its multimillion-dollar renovation program, with a second phase scheduled to debut in October 2026. The improvements include redesigned Carlisle Suites and 20 Signature Beach Suites, reinforcing the property’s appeal to luxury travelers.
Upcoming Festivals and Events
Antigua and Barbuda’s calendar provides numerous opportunities to build vacations around special events. The Antigua Charter Yacht Show, scheduled for December 4–9, 2026, highlights the destination’s reputation as a premier Caribbean yachting center.
Sailing enthusiasts can look forward to the RORC Caribbean 600 in February 2027 and Antigua Sailing Week, scheduled for April 21–25, 2027. The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, traditionally held in April, offers another opportunity to experience the islands’ maritime heritage.
Antigua Carnival will be particularly noteworthy in 2027 as the destination celebrates its 70th anniversary under the theme “Legendary 70.” Scheduled for July 20 through August 3, the festivities will feature colorful parades, elaborate costumes, calypso, soca, steelpan music and lively street celebrations. Advisors should encourage clients interested in attending to book early.
Food-loving travelers should also consider visiting during Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month in May, when culinary events celebrate local chefs, regional ingredients and Caribbean cuisine.
