Turkey Is Open To U.S. Tourists

Turkey, one of the world’s most popular travel destinations with a treasure trove of attractions,

now has new exacting health protocols in place to welcome back tourists.

Turkish Airlines has resumed international flights with some of the most comprehensive Anti-Covid 19 procedures so guests can be assured of traveling safely and hygienically. (www.turkishairlines.com/en-tr/guidelines-for-safe-travel)

In-Flight

Hygiene Experts on board will distribute Hygiene Kits containing disinfectants and masks that must be worn in-flight (if removed for food or beverage service, that must be staggered at different times). The Hygiene Experts provide oversight to ensure precautions are implemented correctly and are also responsible for disinfecting the lavatories and maintaining social distancing/no lines formed. Meals will contain more single use products. Additionally, the crew will have their temperatures taken and wear personal protective equipment.

Before every flight, Ultra Hygiene Protocols include: Aircraft undergo a two stage fogging with clean air systems refreshing the air every three minutes, as well as a flow system that directs air up to HEPA filters. Pillows and blankets, now available only on flights over four hours, have been cleaned at high temperatures with special chemicals after every flight.

At the airport, wearing masks is mandatory and lines are marked for safe physical distancing. Passengers are urged to check in online and be prepared to check carry on bags since only handbags or computer bags are allowed in the cabin, and to bring extra masks for flights longer than four hours. Baggage can be checked at kiosks or counters, without exchanging passports. All passengers’ temperatures will be taken before boarding. Turkish Airlines will space out boarding, starting with the last row and calling small groups at a time. Disembarking will follow the same distancing rules.

Newark/New Gateway

Turkish Airlines added Newark as a gateway August 21 with direct service to their international hub in Istanbul. For information on reinstated flights with daily updates: www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/announcements/coronavirus-outbreak/current-flight-plan and www.turkishairlines.com

Turkey’s Safe Tourism Certification Program For Hotels, Restaurants, & Transportation

The ‘Safe Tourism Certification Program’ is given to accommodations, food and beverage establishments and transportation vehicles used in tourism that have been thoroughly inspected and have met the rigorous Anti–Covid 19 hygiene and health standards necessary for accreditation and they will be rechecked regularly. This is compulsory for hotels with 50 or more rooms. Facilities with this verification will be on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s website. The Safe Tourism Certification logo will be placed on visible areas inside the verified facility for guests to see. Currently over 727 hotels and about 900 restaurants have received the “Safe Tourism Certification.”

In addition to the Safe Tourism Certification, the imperial 5-star Ciragan Palace Kempinski, (www.kempinski.com) right on the Bosphorus, features the new ‘White Glove Service’ program as it welcomes US travelers back to Istanbul. The epitome of grandeur, this former Ottoman Palace introduced this as part of a brand-wide initiative to elevate health and safety protocols and still ensure that guests receive the royal treatment. The program includes: enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures in the rooms and public areas, and is offered for luggage on arrival; contactless guest privacy options; all employees wear masks; a thermal camera to screen guests for fever at the hotel entrance; social distancing on the property, including the outdoor restaurants, pool sunbeds; and more.
